Colorado Preventive Medicine - Dr. Abrams

Our Program

  • An unhurried, all-inclusive medical history and physical examination. Our exam focuses on lifestyle, nutrition, fitness, medications (including vitamins and supplements), computer software to detect medication interactions, family and genetic history, as well as a detailed assessment of all symptoms and health concerns. A careful physical examination can disclose important findings and serve as a baseline for the future.
  • In-depth consultation. You will have all the time you need with your physician to review results, see your radiology images, and most importantly, develop a personal plan for healthy living. At the end of the day you will know more about your health than you ever thought possible.
  • Portable personal health record. Your medical history and exam, lab tests, radiology reports and all other important health records will be provided for you in a bound book, on a USB drive, as well as our unique smartphone app called DocDock for use any time or place you need them.
  • DocDock. Our new free mobile app developed exclusively for Colorado Preventive Medicine is now available for download at the App Store or Google Play for iOS or Android smartphones. From DocDock you can reach your doctor or the office by phone or email any time. You can schedule appointments, check out useful medical apps, receive alerts and reminders, and most importantly, access key documents in your medical record.
  • Computerized medication management.  All medications should be reviewed at least yearly to look for potential side effects or interactions.  We use contemporary medication management software to accomplish this important task.
  • Expansive laboratory tests.  In partnership with the Quest Diagnostics we perform advanced blood screening for heart and vascular risks, diabetes, liver and kidney dysfunction, metabolic problems and cancer.
  • Coronary artery calcium detection.  Using state-of-the-art, ultra-fast CT imaging technology it is now possible to examine your coronary arteries quickly and safely for early signs of atherosclerosis.
  • Carotid artery ultrasound. With highly sensitive ultrasound equipment your carotid arteries can be seen and measured. The carotid arteries are vital because they supply your brain with oxygen-rich blood. They are also important because their thickness reflects the health of your coronary arteries.
  • Abdominal and pelvic ultrasound or MRI. Using this form of imaging we will be able to evaluate your abdominal aorta for aneurysms as well as your pancreas, liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, kidneys, spleen, bladder and intra-abdominal fat. These types of exams do not expose you to any radiation.
  • Oral cancer screen. Oral cancers can be difficult to see in normal incandescent light and are often not diagnosed until the late stages. We use the Velscope illumination system and a thorough oral examination to screen for oral cancers at an early curable stage.
  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. A digital blood pressure monitor can be worn by patients with high blood pressure or suspected high blood pressure to provide multiple accurate BP readings throughout the day and night without concern about “white coat” hypertension. Before beginning a lifetime of blood pressure medications, you should be certain that your blood pressure is truly elevated during your normal daily activities.
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG).  A digital EKG records your heart rhythm and electrical patterns. Your EKG will be available on your personal health record (DocDock app) if it’s ever needed in the future.
  • Spirometry.   Measuring lung functions can detect various treatable chronic lung problems.
  • Audiometry.  A digital hearing test can identify early, correctable hearing loss.
